Luke 24: 50-53.
When he (Jesus) had led them (the disciples)out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God. (NIV)

AMDG, is a Latin acronym for Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (For the Greater Glory of God).

William Robert Cherry came to Sale in the very early days of settlement and according to the records there have been five generations of the family who have attended St. Paul’s.

A son of the second William Robert was Richard James - a well known saddler with a business in Raymond Street adjacent to the old National Bank. He was a councillor for some years and later became Mayor. Richard J. Cherry loved his church and devoted his life to its highest service - he was elected to the Board of Guardians in 1890 and from the first took an active interest in its affairs, both material and spiritual. When this church was consecrated in 1907, he was elected as a first church warden, but possibly his greatest work was in the Sunday School of which he was superintendent for about thirty years.

His son was another William Robert and then followed Bruce - wife Lorna, son Robert Bruce Cherry.LHS 2 ALL
